Soon after in 1872, England Football Association enforced a rule regarding the football’s shape and size. The law stated that the ball used for playing football must be spherical with a circumference of 27 to 28 inches. This century old rule is still being followed by FIFA today.

Nowadays, a lot of research is being carried out on football. Manufacturers are not only trying to make footballs that are waterproof, accurate and player safe, but are also trying to make them technologically upgraded by stitching together 32 panels of leather or plastic with 12 regular pentagons and 20 regular hexagons.
